So who am I, really? That's a good question, one that I am continually discovering the answer to. I'm a work in progress, as are we all. I'm constantly seeking to improve myself, grow and learn new things. I'm very empathic and have struggled throughout my life to keep boundaries in place, but still sometimes let people take advantage of me.
I am a single mother of three wonderful children who constantly delight and confound me. All three of them are quite brilliant and gifted in very different ways. The middle one is certain to be a lawyer when she grows up, so gifted is she in the art of argumentation and finding holes in my logic. :-)
I am an environmentalist, but consider myself neither an eco-freak, nor a hippie. I feel a great responsibility and stewardship for this planet we all call home, and I feel compelled to defend Her as best I can, as frequently as possible. I love Nature in all Her various expressions, and yes, I rescue spiders and other bugs that make their way into my house. I recently stopped traffic at night on a street in my neighborhood so I could rescue a gecko from certain doom, then scooped him up and deposited him safely in a friendly corner outside my house. I try to be as green as I can, but sometimes fall a little short of my mark. I am a gardener and an herbalist.
I am a writer and, quite to my own surprise and delight, a poet.
I am a perpetual student, who has had the great fortune to become employed by an institute of higher learning. One of the wonderful benefits to working there is that I can take as many classes as I want, at a really great price! I am especially intrigued by psychology and physics and by the way we perceive “reality.” I have delved into metaphysics and I believe that most metaphysical ideas are indeed supported by physical laws (maybe even some laws that we haven't discovered yet) - so I guess you could really say that I am a scientist at heart.
I am an avid cook and baker. I love to create gastronomic delights and watch people enjoy them. I especially take pleasure in preparing dishes from the Mediterranean region.
I am a conscientious objector to the eating of meat primarily because I believe that modern meat industry production practices are both extraordinarily cruel and environmentally devastating.
I have studied many different religions, not with the intent to be an adherent to any religion, but rather to discover small truths in a quest for the larger Truth. I've found that, to the best of my knowledge, no one is entirely right and no one is entirely wrong. I've walked many paths but have found no license on The Truth. In fact, I've found God more frequently without the confines of religious practice than within.

When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world. ~John Muir
The clearest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness. ~John Muir

My favorite movie lines:
Frodo: I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.
Gandalf: So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All you have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to you.
Compassion = Unconditional Love
“Innate knowledge and innate capacity (Authentic Self)
are (is) primordial,
while artificial knowledge and artificial capacity (Ego)
are (is) conditioned.
When you recover the primordial reality (Authentic Self),
then you comprehend nature and realize the meaning of life,
and so enter the road of life;
this is the eternity of the path.
If you follow conditioned artificialites (Ego),
you obscure nature and damage life,
and so enter the road to death;
this is the misery of the path.”
